My autobiography
Teaching is a lot of work, making lesson plans, grading homework, and writing up tests. In order to be a successful teacher one must be persistent and hard working. Growing up with a dad who is both a teacher and a coach I understand the amount of time and effort he puts in. I admire how hard he works to be both a great teacher and coach. I look up to him and use him as a model for how much effort I need to put forth. From watching him I have become hard working myself. As a student, I worked hard to earn my grades. I am not a natural genius and had to work for every A I received. Hard work and persistency is a quality that separates a good teacher from a great teacher. With my hard working personality I want to become a great teacher like my dad is.
Along with hard work, a teacher must be organized. As a student, I have always thought highly of my teachers who were prepared for class. When a teacher is organized the class is able to run smoothly. The organization of my teachers when I was younger rubbed off on me, and I have developed into a very organized person. I love when things are organized and I feel prepared for what is going to occur. In fourth grade our teacher gave a certificate stating what she believed was each student’s best quality. She gave me the certificate saying I was “organized”. I took the certificate as a huge compliment and continue to stay very organized in all I do. This characteristic I possess will significantly help me when I am running my own classroom.
The quality of being patient is very important in teaching as well, especially when working with special needs students. At our high school, we have a coffee shop run by special needs students. I enjoyed going there because I could watch the teachers helping the students run the business. They had so much patience and were able to help those kids in so many ways, and I found it very touching. One day at softball practice one of the special needs girls, who worked in the coffee shop, came to practice. She came up to me and wanted to play catch. I used the patience I saw her teachers use with her in order to teach her how to throw properly. Once she got it down, it was rewarding for me to see her having so much fun playing catch. “Patience is a virtue” and in order to be a good teacher I will have to use my patience to help all my students.
